Europol helps dismantle debit card fraud ring - BusinessWeek: "The European Union's police organization says it has helped dismantle a major debit card fraud ring believed to have stolen euro50 million ($70 million) from bank accounts around the world.

Europol says the fraudsters used sophisticated 'skimming' devices to copy personal information from cards and then used the details to clone the cards and empty bank accounts linked to them.

Europol said Tuesday that a monthslong investigation code-named 'Night Clone' led to dozens of arrests earlier this month.

Bulgarian police arrested 47 suspects, while police in Italy detained nine. U.S. police arrested two suspects as did their Spanish counterparts and one person was held in Poland.

Europol said more arrests are likely in the future."
